Department of General and Dental Pharmacology

Department of General and Dental Pharmacology is one of the departments of second phase of BDS (bachelor of dental surgery) course. Students will learn from this department is about Pharmacology. Pharmacology is the study of Drug with the background knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology and related medical sciences

Departmental Objectives:

At the end of the course students will be able to-

  1. Describe the principles of rational prescribing and the basis of therapeutic decision making.
  2. State the principles underlying the concept of essential medicines.
  3. Recognize the implications of polypharmacy and other means of irrational prescribing.
  4. Describe reaction, interactions and manage problems due to misuse and abuse of medicines.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of teratogenic medicines.
  6. Select appropriate learning resources periodically.
  7. Evaluate the ethical and legal issues in drug prescribing.
  8. Develop attitude for continuing self-learning.
  9. Describe the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of essential and common drugs used in dentistry.
  10. List the indications, contraindications, interactions and adverse reactions of commonly used drugs in dentistry with reasons.
  11. Tailor the use of appropriate drugs in disease with consideration to its cost, efficacy, safety for individual and mass therapy needs.
  12. Prescribe common and essential drugs in special medical situations such as pregnancy, lactation, old age, renal or hepatic damage and immune-compromised patients.

Dr. Zunaid Ahmed

Dr. Zunaid Ahmed BDS PhD Associate Professor and Head of the Department of General and Dental Pharmacology in Sapporo Dental College and Hospital.

He has completed his BDS under University of Dhaka in the year 2000 and joined Sapporo Dental College in 2001. He was awarded Japanese Government Monbukagakusho-MEXT scholarship in 2003 and went to Japan for higher studies in the field of Dental Pharmacology. He successfully completed PhD degree in 2008 from Graduate School of Dental Medicine, Hokkaido University, Japan under the supervision of Professor Suzuki Kuniaki. He is one of the pioneer to complete PhD in the field of Dental Pharmacology from Bangladesh.

He has numbers of publications in reputed local and international journals.

He was the student of Khulna Zilla School and Govt. BL College from where he completed his SSC and HSC respectively.

 

Dr. Achhia AhmedBDS MPH (NIPSOM)

Dr. Achhia Ahmed, Completed her BDS in 2006 from Sapporo Dental College and Hospital the number one non-govt. dental college in Bangladesh. She completed MPH (HP & HE) from NIPSOM in 2012. She was the student of Rajshahi University School and College.

She joined in Sapporo Dental College and Hospital as a lecturer in 2013 and serving successfully.

She is one of the most experienced and knowledgeable doctor to teach Dental Pharmacology in Bangladesh.

Dr. Md. Fayom-Ben-Quddus (Saad)

Dr. Md. Fayom-Ben-Quddus (Saad),  

Completed his BDS from Dental Unit, Rajshahi Medical College in 2015 and done schooling in Rangpur Zilla School.

He joined the prestigious institution Sapporo Dental College and Hospital as a lecturer in 2019. Before that he worked as trainer in food and child nutrition project and surveyor on health facility survey by Bangladesh Government. Now he is growing and became experienced under supervision of Dr. Zunaid Ahmed PhD.

His dream of become famous Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in the country and also in the world.

Dr. Farzana Rashid

Dr. Farzana Rashid is medical graduate earned her MBBS degree in 2014 under Dhaka University and Completed Internship from Holy Family Red Crescent Medial College and Hospital. Prior to that she was a student of CUET School and College, Chattogram.

She has been served to this prestigious institution as a full time lecturer of General Pharmacology since 2016.

Along with this job she is doing part time masters in Biomedical Engineering (BME) in MIST, Bangladesh. She also completed CPR from Dhaka Medical College and Hospital in 2017.

She loves to travel, listening music, recitation of poem, watching movies and sports.

Dr. Asma Akter

Dr. Asma Akter, Completed her MBBS in 2014 from Central Medical College and Hospital, Cumilla. She studied in Nawab Faizunnesa Govt. Girls School and Cumilla Govt. Women’s College.

 She joined in this institution as a lecturer in 2018.
